Remember the phrase, "If you don't dream your own dreams, you may end up in someone else's dreams"? Well, I think that holds true for your goals, passions, and dreams for your life, and, also, for where you go when you fall asleep.
Many people just fall asleep, and aren't aware of the richness, and the opportunity of that time.
We need to rest, we need to let everything go, and de stress, and we need to allow our bodies to heal themselves. And they do that quite nicely. In the deepest stages of sleep, our injuries get healed, our inner organs rest, and rejuvenate, and even our brain looks at all the stuff we thought during the day, and decides what to file in long term storage, and what to delete.
Also, our spirits leave our bodies (usually) and go have adventures.
And, how conscious we are to that choice, and sovereignty, is the key to a healing, fun, or learning time, or, a depleting time, that keeps us feeling that we didn't rest at all.
We do so many things, on the astral plane, which is what we call the place we go to when we fall asleep, and leave our bodies. We may have dreams that we remember, but that is just a small part of what we do. Where do we go?
Well, the important thing to remember, is that we have choice. We are spirit, and we have these bodies. It's not the other way around. We are amazing capable beings, and it it usually our intention that gets us there, doing what we wish to do.
We leave our bodies frequently throughout the day, not just when we are sleeping. We daydream, we imagine things in the future, we reminisce about the past. Some people live with one foot in the past, and one in present time.
Sometimes a strong energetic whack, or a strong emotion, will kick us out for a while. A physical jolt or trauma can too! It may take a little while to get us back in again, grounded, and fully in our bodies. It's another reason why we want to have good energetic protections around our bodies, around our aura.
When going to sleep at night, it is helpful to put good protections around your body, because you will be leaving for a while. You may also wish to put protections around your "astral body" as well. Imagine your astral body, as a simple form that looks like you, and you are connected to your body with a silver cord of energy.
Your spirit usually leaves your body our of your third chakra (where that cord is plugged in). It can come back in through that same location. Sometimes, your spirit can leave, or, come back in through the top of your head, your crown, or 7th chakra. We were taught to come back in at the 3rd chakra at Clairvoyant school, as it helps to bring back much of the information of where you went while out.
Now, besides good, simple protections, the next thing you may wish to do is to decide where it is you wish to go, and what you wish to do there.
It is like getting in your car and driving. You usually have a plan. That really helps, even if it is just to go for a lovely drive on a country road, and enjoy yourself.
Your intention is important. You may wish to decide before you go to sleep, and "set the energy" of how you wish it to be. Do you want to have a fun time visiting with friends? Do you want to figure out the solution of some complicated problem you have? Find lost items? Help someone? Do you want to heal yourself? Ask for healing? Perhaps, you go and teach a class on the astral plane, or perhaps, you take one!
That leads me to an important issue. Where are you hanging out, when you leave your body? We can get into bad habits there, or go to the same, familiar places, not realizing the richness, the high energy, and the amazing experiences you are missing.
I liken it to going into a city. You have your intellectually stimulating universities, and you also have your healing communities, your angelic realms, your creative realms, rich, fulfilling places. You can heal yourself, or listen to amazing music, meet and communicate with people you love, or explore places you've never been. You may wake up feeling amazing, refreshed, healed, or, happy that you got some answers, figured out something for yourself, or learned something, or, were of service. You can create here!
And, you also have the lower realms of the astral, with it's ghosts, vampiric entities, it's seedy bars and heavy vibration.
That's the place you have nightmares, or wake up feeling exhausted, or fuzzy, or like you picked up something weird.
This is why you want to set the space, and decide beforehand, and protect yourself, before you go. Remember, your intention is powerful. Your spirit is capable, and powerful.
What are you creating out there, and what would you like to be creating?
DREAMING as MEDICINE.
You can bring back your vital life force from places you've left it, and see where it was lodged.
You can enter your dreams, and dream new outcomes, and create new paths. You can understand some of the more negative emotions going on within, and what wisdom they have for you. You can even reframe those emotions, and turn them into powerful allies.
You can meet with various parts of yourself: the wiser older you, the younger, childlike curious, magical self, or the one that needs protection, or healing.
Robert Moss is a shaman, and author of many books on the subject of lucid deaming, and I highly recommend his work, if you are interested in this way of self healing. He is the author of "Active Dreaming", a synthesis of modern dreamwork, and shamanism.
Other things you can do on the astral realm, can be quite practical! You can learn to play a musical instrument. You can go to a library, and study up on something. If you were reading or studying in real time, for example, and left the book open, and your intention clear, you could let your body rest, and just continue studying.
You could connect with a friend, a coworker, for example, and go have a coffee, or a beer, and spend time. Perhaps, in real time, you both disagree on something, and communication is hard. On the astral, you can climb out of your ego's, and just be spirit, having a discussion.
You could create a play! You could find that lost earring. You could travel and explore the vacation destinations you have been thinking of, before making your decision! And, how interesting, later, upon arrival, that that mountain, or that perfect little coffee shop you found yourself in, seems so...very...familiar!
and why not send yourself on ahead? We probably do that anyway, in our daydreams.
So, there is the practical. There is the self growth, and the amazing things you can learn. There is the healing work, and the healing that you can have. There is also, the possibility of giving service.
Yes, just like you would in the waking world, to help others, you can so easily do that on the astral plane. You could work in a healing center. You could work on healing the planet. You could help a lost dog (or a lost human) find his way home.
Many of my healer friends, myself included, do that. You may wish to be a helper for a while, and then go on to other things.
When I was taking a Clairvoyant intensive training, our class would all meet the evening before, on the astral. We would go to the higher levels of the astral plane, and all meet, by, let's say, the big oak tree.
Most times, I remembered only snippets of what occurred. Many times what we learned the next day in class seemed very familiar. I would remember all the faces of people. Our group agreement was to have light energy, and heal ourselves, and study well.
Now, every morning, as I am waking up, I stay a little longer, and look at my energetic field. I assess what is working, and what needs to be kicked out. I spend time setting the energy of my day, setting my intentions, talk with my guides, and angels, (my crew), and perhaps heal my body. I let go of any cords or energies from the astral plane, from my adventures there, and bring in the information gleaned there. I release the old protections, and grounding, and put up new, present time tools. Feeling amazing, I wake up, feed the cat, make my coffee, and go about my light filled day.
Whatever you decide to do, I hope you enjoy your astral time, as your body rests and heals itself! Your intention, and setting space, is the key!
